## How do I resolve the 'we were unable to build your widget' error?

You may find that your widgets get stuck showing the error message `We were unable to build your widget`. This error typically occurs when someone changes the credentials for the account connection powering a widget in some way, such as changing the password.

The guidance in this article **does not apply to Salesforce widgets**, and deleting your Salesforce connection will cause a permanent connection issue. Please visit the [Salesforce-specific guide](https://support.geckoboard.com/en/articles/6055580-salesforce-widget-error-we-were-unable-to-build-your-widget) for a solution to this error.

To fix this issue and get your widgets working again, you'll need to **disconnect and then reconnect your account**.

1. Click your initials in the top right corner of your account.
2. From the drop-down, select **Admin**.
3. Click the **Connections** tab.
4. Click the ellipsis next to the connection you want to modify.
5. Then **click** **Delete**.
6. In the modal that appears, **check the Delete connection only** box.

1. You must check this box to preserve the widgets and only delete the connection.

7. Then, **click Delete connection** again when prompted.
8. Return to your dashboard and edit a failing widget.

1. If an edit _menu_ appears on your dashboard, **click Account**, then **click + Add connection** to connect a new account.

9. Follow the on-screen steps to reconnect your account, and your widgets will automatically begin using the new connection again.
