# Enable API access in Salesforce

Steps to enable Salesforce API access using profiles and permission sets.

API access is required for Geckoboard to [pull in data from your built reports](https://support.geckoboard.com/en/articles/6055541-how-salesforce-reports-connect-with-geckoboard). You can enable API access on your Salesforce account either by user profile or permission set. Your Salesforce administrator controls your profile and its permissions.

## Enable API access using profiles

Enable API access in Salesforce by user profile.

1. Click on **Setup**.

2. Go to **Manage Users** and click **Profiles**.

3. Click **Edit** on the specific profile you're updating.

4. Scroll down to **Administrative Permissions** and check the **API Enabled** box.

5. Click **Save**.

## Enable API access using permission sets

Enable API access in Salesforce by set system permissions.

1. Click on **Setup**.

2. Go to **Manage Users** and click **Permission Sets.**

3. Select the **Permission Set** you're updating.

4. Go to **System** and click **System Permissions.**

5. Click **Edit**.

6. Check the **API Enabled** box.

7. Click **Save**.
